Scary Tales of the "Land of Ozes": From the History of Military Fortifications

This practice of erecting barrier ramparts has been known since Roman times. The scope of such fortifications was not limited to military protection, but was also focused on restricting smuggling or collecting taxes. But at the beginning of the 20th century, the main meanings of such lines that cut the territory of the European continent focused exclusively on military defense. To give greater power, such structures also received symbolic names either by the names of politicians or by the names of epic heroes.

The campaign of confiscating church and monastery valuables in the Crimean ASSR in 1922
Based on the analysis of archival documentary materials, the article reveals the content of the action plan for the organization and conduct of the confiscation campaign of church and monastery values in the Crimean ASSR in 1922. Demoralized by economic devastation and famine as well as strong pressure from the state, the followers of the Russian Orthodox Church in Crimea slightly resisted the confiscation of church property. The political consequences of the campaign at the regional level included judicial repressions against the clergy and believers who refused to transfer church values voluntarily, discrediting religious denominations by means of agitation and propaganda methods, and organization of an intra-church schism with the help of tacit support of the so-called renovationist movement loyal to the Soviet government.
