Asian immigrants of the Far East in the materials of the first census of population of the Russian Empire in 1897
In 1860, the Peking Treaty was concluded, as a result of which the Primorsky province, adjacent to the Amur and Ussuri rivers, came under the control of Russia. However, only a small number of Russians immigrated to the Far East. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Asian immigrants such as the Chinese and Koreans played an important role in the settlement and development of the Far East region. However, the migration of Asians to the Russian Far East was not always welcomed by the Russian government. This migration is closely related to the economic and demographic situation in the Far East at that time, the attitude of local authorities towards migrants, and the internal politics. This report considers the population status of Asian immigrants based on the statistics of the Russian census of 1897.
Key words: migration, Asian immigrants, Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, Far East.
