Valley of ghosts in Crimea: a toponymic exception in hauntology
The outstanding philosopher and postmodernist J. Derrida, reflecting on the fate of the idea of communism, coined the term “ghost science”. The framework of a new scientific direction was quickly expanded due to cultural and psychological research, which revealed specific reflections of phantom images in works of art and their manifestations in the human mind. Unlike these sciences, the fields of knowledge that study nature are specific and leave no room for ghosts to penetrate into them. The specificity of the geographical object is evidenced by its name. However, the Valley of ghosts in Crimea is an exception to this rule. This, on the one hand, reflects the uniqueness of the Crimean geo-ethical model of the world, and, on the other hand, allows us to understand the reasons for the differences in the use of phantom images by ideologists and politicians and their ignorance by representatives of geography and biology.
Keywords: politics, ideology, linguistics, toponymy, Crimea, hauntology, ghost towns.
