Evolution of the concept of "diaspora" in political science

The article analyzes the origin and development of the concept of "diaspora" in social and humanitarian disciplines and, first of all, in political science. The concept under consideration arose as a result of the translation of biblical texts and retained religious connotations long enough. The first significant shift in the understanding of the diaspora was related to the differences between the Old and New Testaments. Then, in the twentieth century, the confessional understanding of the diaspora changed to a narrow ethnic and even racial one, which subsequently allowed the concept to be analyzed in the theory of a nation and nationalism. However, the concept of the diaspora differs significantly from the "ethnic minority" or "ethnic group", which led to the formation of several analytical frameworks for the study of diasporas - the "classical", constructivist and postmodern approaches. The author comes to the conclusion that the concept of "diaspora" continues to develop and receives a new semantic framework.
